Spring 2021
In collaboration with Lindsay Wildlife Experience
In the first part of workshop, participants met two of Lindsay Wildlife’s stunning animal ambassadors, Rufous the Red-tailed hawk and Alba the Barn Owl. After a meet and greet with Rufous, participants picked up their pencils for a meditative blind-contour drawing lesson, featuring the gorgeous model Alba. This workshop tied in science, art, and conservation and was open to audiences of all ages, no experience is necessary. This workshop is held in conjunction with Bedford Gallery’s current exhibition Bird, Nest, Nature which features over 150 artists inspired by creatures of flight.
Spring 2021
For this virtual workshop, participants learned three different knots and created blind contour drawings based on natural environments. After sharing about the mechanics of rope teams for glacier travel, I taught participants uses and techniques for tying a few very important knots: double fisherman's, alpine butterfly, and figure eight. Then participants were guided through practicing blind contour drawings based on the natural environments that they feel connected to. This type of drawing is a slow practice for close looking, and is meant to be low-stress, imprecise, and fun. The workshop was open to all ages and experience levels.
This workshop was taught in conjunction with my installation, Rope Team, which was part of the exhibition, A Beautiful Mess: Weavers and Knotters of the Vanguard at Bedford Gallery.
