Constellations is a memory exchange project, created with the participants of the 2018 field season of JIRP. At the end of the expedition, each student, staff, and faculty member was invited to record a memory from their summer, based on themes of “growth,” “transformation,” and “feeling grounded.” These memories were then transcribed anonymously on the back of cyanotype-coated paper, and expedition members were invited to participate in the print-making process during an afternoon workshop.
While the cyanotype prints were exposing to sunlight, each person chose an object from the surrounding landscape according to their memory – alpine plants for “growth,” a bit of snow for “transformation,” or a stone for “feeling grounded” – and together placed it on the paper to create a collaborative print. Once the print was fixed with water, it was cut into small pieces and redistributed; each person then chose a unique print with another anonymous memory on the back.
