Lighter Than the Water in the Ocean is a series of cyanotype prints, created during the Juneau Icefield Research Program 2017 field season. In collaboration with the Isotope Geochemistry Research Team, each print was exposed using a snow sample collected on an expedition to a remote section of the Icefield. After digging a 4+ meter pit through last year’s snowpack, the team worked together to sample every 50 cm, collecting data to study the chemical signature of the snow. Taken together, the samples span the last year's worth of weather. The isotopic signatures of each sample give the research team information about how the Juneau Icefield weather changes over the course of one seasonal cycle.
