Terratoma is an exploration of my body as a site for geologic forces, growth, transformation, and extraction. This project serves as a culmination of my life and work across the last 5 years in California, Alaska, and Michigan, combining found maps and diagrams, collected natural objects, years of sketches, photographs, cyanotypes, and original poetic text, in an effort to explore the body as a porous vessel for geologic empathy.
Terratoma is risograph printed in Sky Blue, Brick, Sunflower, and Midnight on Springhill Vellum Bristol and French papers, in an edition of 150. It is 7x10" with a slip band, unfolding to a complete 42x10".
A small companion risograph zine, Hysteresis/Hysteria, serves as an experimental footnote for the main book. The zine includes long exposure images from the Juneau Icefield and traces the etymology of the words “hysteresis” and “hysteria” until they meet in the middle with the same ancient root. It is double-sided so you read it both ways by flipping it upside-down and reading towards the center, a mirror image.
Terratoma and Hysteresis/Hysteria were made in collaboration with Zach Clark / National Monument Press, and printed at Chute Studios in Oakland, CA.
